Optimize the checkout process and other tips to improve your online sales

1. In the total price there is no place for surprise
All customers are looking for information on shipping costs. Make sure it is visible and well expressed on your website. Includes information on shipping costs or any other information that may exist, for example, for shipping to other countries.

Tip: Free shipping encourages purchase. If your online store model allows it, adopt this system and show it on the web clearly.

2. Allows payment as a guest user
We have already seen that the obligation to create an account to pay is the second cause of the loss of the shopping cart. Consequently, banish that practice from your online store.

Tip: If the customer registration is important to your business, encourage it after payment, explaining to the user the advantages of filling in the form.

3. Simplify payment
The concern for security, even more so for fraud, is constant in consumers during the first operations with an ecommerce.

According to Paypal, two out of three consumers need to recognize the payment gateway before buying. Keep this in mind when designing the payment mix of your business.

Tip: One-click payment systems improve conversion, provided they are presented with the right information.

4. Keep the conversation alive
No digital merchant is safe from the nefarious practice of the abandoned cart - you have to learn to live with it.

Two ways to minimize this problem are to try to recover it by following up with the customer by mail, to inform you if they are still interested in the purchase. Or, as a second option, send you a promotional or discount code that encourages you to finish the process, a strategy that cannot be abused.

Tip: 58.6% of buyers justify abandoning the purchase with a “I was only browsing / I was not ready to buy”.

Knowing the data from the Baymard Institute does not improve the situation, but it does help to understand that not everything is attributable to poor management.
