Online VS Offline Marketing
The Benefits of Each One
Having been around for a long time, there is a wider range of offline marketing strategies to choose from. Radio, television, print, even good old fashioned networking. These are all tried and true methods of marketing your business, and they’re well enough understood that you’ll be hard pressed to find someone they don’t appeal to.
The reasons for choosing to use this form of marketing are clear. When dealing with traditional marketing, there is already an established audience that you’re likely to reach. A radio advert being played at a certain time will have a certain audience who are likely to be listening every day. This reliability can be absolutely key to an effective marketing strategy, as it allows your business to stay in the mind of your target audience, leading to an increased chance in that audience investigating your business.
In addition, physical marketing such as posters and newspaper adverts are largely permanent, and able to function as physical reminders to your audience. There’s a reason we leave post-it notes on our fridge, and that’s so we don’t have to go out of our way to look at them. Print media offers the exact same benefit. We also tend to prioritise real-world interactions as more valuable than virtual ones, with face-to-face interactions being even more valuable than that!
New digital frontier
The digital world of online marketing is a whole new frontier, one that can prove rather intimidating to the uninitiated. The key thing to remember is that you are ultimately trying to drive traffic to your website in the hopes that people will then go on to become clients or customers. There are a variety of ways you can accomplish this. The simplest of them all is straight up advertising. Banner ads, video ads, even QR codes on real-world posters all count toward this. These are as close to traditional methods as you’re going to get, and they function in much the same way.
Where it really gets exciting is with methods such as social media, blogging and vlogging, as well as search engine optimisation. We will go into more detail on each of these, and how they can best be suited to your business, in future blog posts, but for now we want to make it clear that online marketing offers something very different to offline, as it opens up a whole new potential audience for your business.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that these marketing strategies are mutually exclusive, though! It’s vital, given this increasingly digital world in which we live, that your audience is able to receive marketing both online and off, and that these two sources are working in conjunction with each other to create a masterful marketing experience. This may seem intimidating, when in reality it could not be more simple!
Social media
Taking the time to include your social media handles on business cards, posters, and pens is a small thing that could result in
a vastly increased online presence for your business. Make it simple for your customers to find you, and they will want to keep up with what you’re doing. Alternatively, try the reverse method. Using online marketing resources to drive offline marketing success. Post images onto social media, informing customers that if they show their code on their phone’s screen when they buy from you, they will receive a discount. Tell customers that if they post onto their social media, tagging your business in the post, they will receive a free gift.
There are countless possibilities opened up by combining the virtual and the physical. It’s up to you to make use of them.
